Abstract:
NAAs are traditionally used in food for flavouring, tingling, pungent and saliva-enhancing properties but also to
treat various diseases. NAA containing products are abundantly available on the market as food, cosmetics,
medical devices and medicinal products. However, no unambiguous legal product classification is applied for
these products. In this study, the different health product classes from a European viewpoint are discussed in
relation to the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of the NAAs, their applied dosage and claimed
usage.
