<title>Financial Risk Management in Infrastructure Projects: A Case Study of Jimma Zone</title>
<link>https://repository.ju.edu.et//handle/123456789/9954</link>
<description>Financial Risk Management in Infrastructure Projects: A Case Study of Jimma Zone
Aziza SheKalifa H/Hassen; Eshetu Yadecha
This study investigates the risk management practices employed in three major infrastructure projects in the Jimma Zone: the Expansion of Shenen Gibe Hospital, the Shenen Gibe Cultural Hall project, and Ifa Boru Secondary School. Utilizing a mixed-methods research design, the study combines quantitative and qualitative approaches to provide a comprehensive analysis. Data were collected through surveys distributed to key stakeholders, supplemented by in-depth interviews to gain deeper insights into risk management practices. A stratified random sampling method was employed to ensure representation from various project participants. The analysis involved statistical evaluation of survey responses and thematic analysis of interview data to identify key trends and challenges. Results indicate a moderate level of effectiveness in risk management practices, with existing tools for risk identification underutilized and inconsistently applied. Qualitative risk analysis methods are frequently employed; however, a lack of quantitative analysis suggests gaps in understanding financial implications, which could hinder informed decision-making. Risk response strategies, particularly risk transfer methods, show promise, yet there is a notable deficiency in risk avoidance techniques and contingency planning. The study also identifies significant challenges, such as labor shortages, design changes, and financial uncertainties like price fluctuations, which impede effective risk management. Based on these findings, the study proposes targeted recommendations including the establishment of comprehensive risk management frameworks, enhanced training and stakeholder engagement, improved communication strategies, and increased investment in risk management tools. Implementing these recommendations can strengthen risk management practices, leading to more successful project outcomes and increased stakeholder confidence in infrastructure development within the region

The public project is particularly a demanding undertaking, with the requirement to meet diverse &#13;
demands. Despite huge investment, public sector projects tend to complete behind schedule, &#13;
indicating shortfall in various project factors. The objective of this study was to examine the &#13;
effect of the project planning process on the success of public construction projects in Jimma &#13;
Town, Ethiopia. It aims to investigate the effects of project planning process and project success, &#13;
with a focus on Resource estimation, Project scheduling, Risk management strategies and &#13;
Stakeholder engagement. The design of this study was descriptive and explanatory through both &#13;
quantitative and qualitative approach method. The primary and secondary sources of data were &#13;
utilized. The primary data was collected by questionnaire and interview, while secondary data &#13;
was obtained from relevant literature and documents.  The sampling was determined based on &#13;
the target population and sampling techniques such as probability random sampling and non&#13;
probability purposive sampling. A total of 142 questionnaires were distributed, for which &#13;
obtained 92.25% response rate. The collected data was analyzed using regression model in &#13;
Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software version 20.0. We found there are strong &#13;
relation (which the result indicates R2 80.8%) between project planning process and project &#13;
success. Also, the Study findings revealed that, resource estimation in planning process, &#13;
Schedule planning process; risk management in planning process, and stake holder engagement &#13;
has a significant effect on project success of public construction project at Jimma town &#13;
municipality. So, it is highly recommended to give attention to those factors because all of these &#13;
have an immediate and continues effect on project life cycles, to the excellent outcomes of &#13;
project success at Jimma town municipality.

The purpose of this study is to analyze factors affecting success of public projects &#13;
implementation the case of Sebeta City, Oromia Regional State. The study used descriptive and &#13;
explanatory research design. The study targeted a sample of 211 from a target population of 450 &#13;
located in the study area. Simple random and purposive non random sampling technique was &#13;
utilized in selecting the respondents for the study. Primary and secondary data was collected &#13;
from the study respondents using questionnaires and interview which were self-administered. &#13;
Data was analyzed descriptively and presented through figures, tables, percentages, bar charts, &#13;
pie charts and tabulation to show differences in frequencies. Statistical Package for Social &#13;
Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 was used to aid in coding, entry and analysis of quantitative data &#13;
obtained from the closed ended questions. Binary logistic regression was used to Analysis the &#13;
major Factors Affecting Success of Public Projects Implementation. The study revealed out that &#13;
the major Factors Affecting Success of Public Projects Implementation was   poor project &#13;
initiation, followed by poor project planning/design system, poor project monitoring, and &#13;
evaluation and controlling system, poor communication and improper project closure. Therefore &#13;
considering the importance the study recommends the organization to focus on Project &#13;
identification, feasibility study, appraisal and selection, proper project planning tools and &#13;
priciples,recurrent monitoring, evaluation and control against standard and performance , proper &#13;
procurement and contract administration, follow effective communication and proper project &#13;
closure techniques during project implementation. This will ensure that a project success &#13;
implementation measurement n such as client satisfaction, cost, time and goal can be achieived &#13;
in the study area..

Information and communication technology has become the heart of banking industry, while the &#13;
banking industry is the heart of the economy. This study examine the effect of ICT on the &#13;
financial performance of Ethiopian banking industry using secondary data over the period 2010 –2022 published annual reports by the banks. Data analysis was carried out in panel &#13;
environment. The study was employed purposive sampling technique to select the required &#13;
sample of banks from commercial banks in Ethiopia. The result of the study was affirmed by co&#13;
integration regression analysis. Seven banks, out of the 21 commercial banks as of December &#13;
2022, were selected for the study. The dependent variables were used in this study in order to &#13;
measure the sample commercial banks performance is ROA whereas the explanatory variables &#13;
are ATM, POS, MB, IB, and NB. The study empirically analyzed the effect of information &#13;
communication technology in Ethiopian commercial banks financial performance by creating an &#13;
econometric model to study the effect of various factors such as M-Banking, Internet Banking, &#13;
and POS, ATM, and POS. Accordingly, the regression result revealed that  &#13;
the R-squared of this model is 0.85404 which means that 85% of the total variation of Ethiopian &#13;
commercial banks return on asset is explained by the total variation of ATM, POS, MB, IB and &#13;
BRAN. It implies that these independent variables were statistically significant effect on return &#13;
on asset on commercial banks in Ethiopia. Based conclusions of the study, it is recommended  for &#13;
commercial banks in Ethiopia, to increase the profitability impact of POS and ATMs, Ethiopian &#13;
Commercial Banks are strongly suggested to installing POS and ATMs, MB, and IB, more &#13;
comprehensively. Overall, Information and Communication Technology can have a significant &#13;
effect on financial performance. By leveraging technology, businesses can streamline their &#13;
operations, improve efficiency, and make more informed decisions. Thus, the study suggested &#13;
that integrating ICT into financial practices can enhance productivity and ultimately contribute to &#13;
improved financial performance of commercial banks of Ethiopia.
