Abstract:
Women were underrepresented in various leadership and decision-making roles, while having the same
aptitude as men to execute distinct organizational tasks. With more women taking on leadership roles
and breaking barriers in traditional male-dominated fields. Field however despite progress, women
still face challenges and barrier. The purpose of this study was to investigate the status and challenges
of women in sports leadership in Yem Zone, Central Ethiopian regional state. The study design
descriptive survey a mixed method approach by integrating both quantitative and qualitative methods
for both generating and analyzing data. The study population for this study was experts, leaders,
coaches, and sport federation presidents in sports organizations. A total of 79 sampling units were
selected for the survey using the purposive sampling technique. Both primary and secondary data were
used to collect the necessary information. Used Mixed method by doing so, such a method is believed
to enhance the quality of the findings and provide a full picture of the status and challenges of women
leaderships in sport organizations. The finding of the study the status of women in sport organization is
low (18.2) leadership position in yem zone. Women played a very insignificant share of the leadership
positions in the study area and multiple challenge and barriers was identified gender bias and serotype
28 (41.8%) agreed. And the mean 2.01 and standard division .879 results show that the respondents,
strongly agree regarding the presence of gender bias and stereotypes. To impede them from advancing
to the leadership positions implementation of gender quotas for leadership positions is acceptable 27
(40.3%) agreed. The mean 1.12 and standard division 1.038 results show that a significant number of
respondents agree about the implementation of gender quotas for leadership positions. On the bases of
the findings of this study recommendations were drawn the youth and sport organizations at the Zonal
and Woreda levels should create awareness compelling to change gender stereotypes in sports leaders.
