Unemployment is a macroeconomic problem that affects people most directly and severely.
Young people are more vulnerable to unemployment than Adults due to different factors. This
study aimed at identifying the major determinants of youth unemployment in Dedo woreda.
The research has employed descriptive and explanatory design in this study, a combination of
qualitative and quantitative approaches were employed. The data was collected by
distributing questionnaires to a total of 355 youth using multi stage sampling technique in
five selected kebeles, out of which 340 were completed successfully.Descriptive and logistic
regression model were used to analyze the data.. The output from the study indicates that half
of the respondents were employed, whereas the remaining was unemployed. The result of
binary logistic regression analysis showed that Sex, Age, Marital status of youth, educational
level of youth, Access to credit, Household income, Job preference and Land ownership had
significant effect on youth unemployment in Dedo woreda. However, the variables work
experience and Infrastructure access was found to be statistically insignificant. It is
recommended that, encourage youth to improve their education, empower females and
increase their participation, encourage youth to increase their credit service, address the
problem of land access to work on and improve youth attitudes towards jobs in selfemployment were suggested as recommendations. |
