dc.description.abstract The aim of the study was to investigate women teachers’ empowerment and challenges in school leadership of primary schools and suggest remedial solution so as to reduce the magnitude of the problem. Method employed was cross sectional survey and sampling techniques were purposive and systematic random sampling. Data were gathered from primary and secondary sources through questionnaire, interviews, and document were reviews tools such as frequency count, percentage, mean and standard deviation population was 1261 teachers so it was the elements. Sample size was probability sampling technique that was Systematic Random Sampling in this method of sampling, the first unit of the sample selected at random and the subsequent units are selected in a systematic way 171 statistical tools such as SPSS software tabulation and frequency would be uses in analyzing the quantitative responses, .The result, of the study reveal that, such challenges are lack interest to empower women teachers in leadership positions lack of self-confidence, unsuitable working condition, lack of motivation to assure lack of support and encouragement, lack of women role models, lack of incentive, burden of family responsibility at home and high workloads at home. Consequently, in order to address such problem it is good if zonal and woreda education build the capacity of women teachers through different strategies, bringing attitudinal change in the community concerning the gender stereotype and proper implementation of school policies and practices to enhance women’ empowerments in school leadership. It’s advisable if women role models in school leadership positions and male dominance to be minimized. In line with this, different school administrative bodies need to play their own roles in empowering women in school leadership. en_US
