Abstract:
Infectious diseases caused by antimicrobial remain a serious and global problem in human
health. Herein, the discovery and application of antibiotics have attracted much attention in the
past years, have helped to cure numerous infectious diseases, and made huge contributions in the
biomedical field. In this regard, the nanomaterial is a promising candidate to overcome the
problem of antibiotic resistance. The main objective of this research was to synthesize,
characterize and evaluate the antimicrobial activity of NiO-Ag3PO4-Fe2O3 ternary
nanocomposites made by the precipitation method. The synthesized nanoparticles were
characterized by using UV-Vis, XRD, SEM, and FT-IR. From the UV-Vis absorption spectrum
the peaks of NiO, Ag3PO4 NPs, and NiO-Ag3PO4-Fe2O3 ternary nanocomposites were detected at
231 nm, 211 nm, and 230 nm with Eg of 4.73eV, 4.51 eV, and 3.35eV respectively. The FT-IR
spectroscopy revealed the presence of a functional group in the synthesized NPs and ternary
nanocomposites. The XRD data showed the crystalline structure of NiO, Ag3PO4 NPs, and NiOAg3PO4-Fe2O3 ternary nanocomposites with crystallite sizes of 27.44, 49.93, and 51.50 nm
respectively. The SEM micrograph for NiO, Ag3PO4NPs, and NiO-Ag3PO4-Fe2O3 ternary
nanocomposites showed no distinct morphology, aggregates of nanoparticles with no distinct
shape, and irregular spherical shape respectively. The effect of nanoparticles and ternary
nanocomposites are screened in vitro antimicrobial activity by the Disc diffusion method. The
bacterial organisms employed in this study are (Salmonella typhus, Bacillus cereus,
Staphylococcusaureus, Escherichia coli) and also Candida albicans (fungus). The observed
inhibition zones for these nanoparticles and ternary nanocomposites (NiO, Ag3PO4, and NiOAg3PO4-Fe2O3) are within the range of 15 mm, 13 mm, 16 mm respectively for E.coli, 13 mm,
12 mm, 23 mm respectively for B.cerius, 16 mm, 12 mm, 17 mm respectively for S. aureus, 13
mm, 13 mm, 15 mm respectively for S. typhus and 17 mm, 12mm, 16 mm for C. albicans
(fungi).
