Intracranial hematoma is the collection of blood in the various intracranial spaces. It includes
collection of blood in epidural, subdural, parenchymal and intraventricular areas.
Epidural hematoma is collection of blood in the epidural space. It is the commonest form of
intracranial hematoma. It is when bleeding occurs between the tough outer membrane
covering the brain (Dura mater) and the skull.
The cause is typically head injury that results in a break of the temporal bone and bleeding
from the middle meningeal artery. Occasionally it can occur as a result of a bleeding
disorder or blood vessel malformation.
Management outcome of EDH varies depending on multiple factors.
No prior study conducted in our setup. Therefore there is a need to assess patient
outcomes, and provides the data to help solve critical problem that are faced in everyday
clinical practice.
Objective- To provide robust epidemiological data describing management outcomes of
EDH
Methods
Institution-based prospective observational cohort study design will be conducted in JUSH
conducted from December 2020 - December/2021.
Data will be collected using hospital records, patient document card and morbidity and
mortality report in JUMC. The collected data will be cleaned, edited and fed into a computer
and analysis will be made using SPSS window version 26. |
