dc.description.abstract Over the past decades cardiovascular diseases has emerged as single most important cause of death worldwide and high economic burden. Low income and middle-income countries are seeing an alarming rise of cardiovascular disease. Particularly Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) countries are facing an epidemiological shift from infectious disease to chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), diabetes, and obesity. However, the pattern of cardiac disease is ever dynamic so this study aimed at assessing the pattern of cardiac disease among adult cardiac patients on follow-up at Jimma University medical center. Objective The aim of this study was to assess pattern of cardiac disease among cardiac patients on follow up at cardiac clinic of Jima university medical center. Methodology A cross sectional study was conducted to assess pattern of cardiac disease among cardiac patients on follow-up at cardiac clinic of Jimma Medical Center from September 2020 to September 2022 on sampled patients selected by using systematic sampling technique from review of clinical record of patients using a check lists. The collected data was entered in to EPI data and analyzed using SPSS (version 26.0). Result Ischemic heart disease was the leading cardiac disease followed by rheumatic heart disease, dilated cardiomyopathy and hypertensive heart disease, which accounted for 35.7% (74),28% (58),17.4% (36) and 13% (27) respectively. Majority of the patients were from rural area accounting for79.2% (164) and the most common valvular lesion identified combined MR+MS (39.6%) followed by isolated MS and MR (22.4%) each. en_US
