Abstract:
This study was aimed self-reported daily physical activity and perceived health status of selected
secondary schools of Bench Sheko zone. In order to achieve the intended goal, student
questionnaire, interview and observation were used as data gathering instruments. The study
used quantitative andqualitative researchmethods, andlottery system samplingtechniques for
selecting those whotook partin the study. In this study four secondary schools were selected, 89
students were selected from each school and total 356 students were used as a target population
for the study. After the necessary data collected from the target population, the data were
analyzed by using numbers, words and percentages. From the study the researcher found
students less participation in physical activity, lack of sport fields and equipment, lack of fitness
centers and students unwillingness to perform physical activities were the most factors that
hinder students not to live a health life. Most students in the study were not in a good health
condition and the perceived health status is poor and most students are inactive in daily physical
activity. From the findings it is concluded that the effect of physical activity is noticed negative
influence on the status of students’ health. From the conclusion the researcher recommended
that students should participate in different physical activity, the concerned bodies should fulfill
the necessary materials, sport offices should give supports to the schools, and business people
should open fitness centers in the towns
