Background: Despite improvements in maternal birth outcomes worldwide, there are still notable
differences in developing nations, especially Ethiopia. On the other hand, the study location lacked
sufficient data regarding the immediate maternal birth outcome. However, their immediate
maternal birth outcomes and associated factors are not yet studied in this study setting. Therefore,
this study aimed to assess immediate maternal birth outcomes and associated factors among
postnatal women who gave birth jimma medical center.
Objective: To assess immediate maternal birth outcomes and the associated factors among
postnatal women.
Methods: An institutional-based cross-sectional study was employed at Jimma Medical Center
from May 15 to June 30, 2023, on 410 participants using a single population proportion formula
by systematic random sampling technique. Data were collected through an intervieweradministered structured questionnaire and document review. Data were entered using Epi data
version 3.1 and analyzed by SPSS version 26.0. Bivariable and multivariable binary logistic
regression analyses were performed. The odds ratio with the corresponding 95% confidence
interval was computed, and the explanatory variables' statistical significance was declared at a pvalue <0.05.
Results: The overall response rate was 100%. The magnitude of complicated immediate maternal
birth outcomes among post natal women was 28.8% (95% CI, =(24–33). Booking in the 2nd
trimester (AOR = 2.3, 95% CI [1.354–3.795]), operative vaginal delivery (AOR = 4.9, 95% CI
[1.169-20.569]), distance (AOR = 1.7, 95% CI [1.034–2.908], mass media exposure (AOR =.28,
95% CI [.104–.756]), and medical problems during pregnancy (AOR = 7.7, 95% CI [3.51–16.71])
were factors significantly associated with compicated immediate maternal birth outcome.
Conclusion:Nearly athird of participant had immediate complicated maternal birth
outcomes.Factors associated with complicated maternal birth outcome includes;booking in the
2nd trimester, operative vaginal delivery, exposure to mass media, distance, and medical
problems. Therefore, Jimma University, Jimma medical center, Health care provider, should give
support for maternal waiting place, create awareness about early antenatal care contatact as to
reduceimmediate maternal birth outcomes. |
