Abstract:
The purpose of this study was assessed and investigated the prevention, types, causes and
treatment of injury in case of middle and long distance athletes in the Silte zone alicho Silte
Limat Mehber athletics training centre. There are very few research investigating injury
prevention strategies in Ethiopia and scientific training was not translated to coaching
practices. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess this title. Methods Cross-sectional
study was employed from April to June, 2023. The sample size of this study was 76 with the
whole coaches, middle and long distance runners in the training Centre. Concurrent
triangulation (mixed methods at a time) with self-administered questionnaire, observation
checklist and key in depth interview was used. The data were entered and analysed through
SPSS version 25. Frequency, percentage, central tendency (mean) and dispersion (standard
deviation) were conducted and ANOVA test 95% confidence interval and declared with P
value of 0.05. Regarding prevention of injury, the majority of the respondents (63.9%) were
strongly agreeing to the prevention of injury through warming up, cooling down and
stretching can solution for preventing injury before and after main program. Moreover,
majority of the respondents replied that (56.9%) prevention of injury associated to warming
up and cooling down, rest, recovery and enough sleep can prevent injury. In the present study
the type of injury was revealed that 25% of joints at ankle and knee injury are the commonest
type of injury and followed by 8.3% of injury at Achilles, hamstring, ligaments, and tendon
injury, 4.2% of injury at muscle, and 4.2% sole of the foot injury.In terms of causes of injury,
most of participants strongly agreed that (56.9%) inconvenient training and competition field
can cause injury, (66.7%) lack of spike and others training shoes can cause injury, and
(62.5%) repeatedly asphalt and gravel running can cause injury. The qualitative data
revealed that results were thematised in to five categories including poor coordination
among coaches, SDA/SLM and Zonal Youth and Sport Department, lack of logistics like
training and competition spike shoes, types (knee and ankle), causes (inconvenient training
and competition field) and treatment of injury (rest, nice stretching, balanced diet eat
swimming, recovery and enough sleep can prevent injury).
