Abstract:
Background: - The Human Immune-Deficiency Virus (HIV) epidemic is a major public health
issue affecting the worlds today. As a result of the effectiveness of the highly active antiretroviral
therapy (HAART), people living with HIV/AIDS now live longer. As people living with
HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) live longer health related Quality of life (HRQOL) become important
prognostic measure in HIV care. The issue of HRQOL of HIV/AIDS patients is not yet well
documented in Ethiopia. In this study, HRQOL and associated factors among people living with
HIV/AIDS was assessed.
OBJECTIVE: - assessment of health related quality of life(HRQOL) and associated factors
among people living with HIV/AIDS on HAART, in Woliso town , south west Ethiopia,2018.
Methods:-a Facility based cross-sectional study design was employed from august 13, 2018 to
September 12, 2018 in selected health center and hospital, in woliso town. A total of 403 patients
were interviewed for Health related quality of life using standardized and validated medical
outcome study short form-36 (sf-36) questioner. Data entry was done on Epi Data 3.1, and then
transported to SPSS version 20 for analysis. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression model
was used to summarize the results.
Result: The majority of the respondents reported to have a good physical functioning (90) and
social functioning (90) domains, they also reported to have moderate score in role emotional
domain (70). Educational status (AOR=0.125) and occupational status (AOR=0.021) was found
to be significantly associated with Role physical and Role emotional domains of health related
quality of life. The average monthly income and recent CD4+ cell counts of the respondents,
however, did not show significant association with any of the domains of health related quality
of life.
Conclusion: according to the finding of this study, health related quality of life show score
which is from moderate to high in all (eight) domains; marital status, educational status,
occupational status ,months on ART,ART follow up spacing, treatment regimen and WHO stage
of HIV/AIDS showed significant association with at least one domain of HRQOL.
