Abstract:
Youth centres provide a venue in the community where youth can be involved in positive recreational
activities, vocational training, and access to peer education programs to promote healthier lifestyles.
The objective of the study was to investigate the impacts of managerial practice on the performance of
selected youth development centres with specific reference to sport and recreation in the Addis Ababa
City Administration. The study used a cross-sectional research design. The sample of selected
Woreda of Addis Ababa City youth development employees (n= 92) was selected using purposive
sampling. The study used to primary source of data such as standerdaized qusionarie and interview
question.s Sport and recreation performance was consideredA to be a dependent variable of the study.
Management functions such as planning, organising, staffing, directing and control were independent
variables of the study. Data were collected using questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and
Focus group discussions. Data was entered SPSS Version 26 processed the data then descriptive and
inferential statistics such frequency,percentage logistic regression were used to analyse the data
supplemented with qualitative findings. The result of the study demonstrates that staffing and
controlling influenced sport and recreation performance at p < 0.05. The finding of the study reveals
that both staffing and controlling in the youth development centre positively influence sport and
recreation performance. The finding of the study reveals that both staffing and controlling in the youth
development centre positively influence sport and recreation performance. Planning, organizing and
directing did not influence sport and recreation performance influence sport and recreation
performance youth development centre. The finding of this study reveals that the major problem of
youth development centres in Addis Ababa City Administration was a lack of human resources due to
this the organization was unable to accomplish its’ tasks. The problem was sports expertise was not
assigned to that job title and in the worst scenario those who were working on that job title graduated
in sports science profession. Mostly the hall offers the service for meeting purposes. Those who were
first degree holders did not want to work on that title, because the position has a low salary scale and
did not have any other incentives and compensation as well it has no its budget. Because of the above stated reasons sports and recreation performance in youth development centres couldn’t accomplish
its tasks.The research recommends that plan, organizing and directing the sports and recreation
department.
