Abstract:
Background: Heart failure (HF) is the leading cause of hospitalization and
readmissions in patients with cardiovascular diseases. It is also a significant cause of
mortality, morbidity and is related with impaired quality of life. This study aims to
identify the factors contributing to admission, common precipitating factors and
c o m o r b i d i t i e s i n p a t i e n t s a d m i t t e d w i t h H e a r t F a i l u r e .
Objective: to assess factors associated with hospital admission, precipitating factors
and comorbidities among patients with Heart Failure Admitted to Medical Ward during
the study period.
Methods: a prospective observational Cross-sectional, Hospital-based study was
conducted at Jimma Medical Center, Ethiopia, from February 3, to March 3,2023. All
adult cardiac patients were enrolled following admission the Cardiac unit and from the
general medical wards for patients admitted there. Patients’ demographics, medical
characteristics, laboratory values and medications were collected by face-to-face
interview for each patient. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS software
version 26. Chi-square, bivariate and multivariate logistic regression was used to
identify correlations between variables.
