This research study was analyzed and evaluated the cause of road traffic accident and to
recommended safety measures at the identified black spots for safer transport system in the
study area. The accident and safety recorded data were collected from Jimma zone police
commission.
A purposive sampling technique was used for data collection in the study area. Both
qualitative and quantitative data were used in this research study. Pedestrians, drivers,
traffic police and ERA were the population of this study assessed on the achievement of road
traffic accident and intervention system of traffic accident.
The analysis was used in this study. Findings of this study have shown the distribution of road
accidents by (day and year, driver age group, gender, accident location area), severity of
crashes, accident analysis, type of vehicles and uses questioners and Data based black spot
identification schemes that employs five distinct scientific principles namely: accident
frequency, accident rate, empirical Bayesian, critical accident and accident prediction
models. A total of 10 sections of road were studied using primary and secondary data. Out of
the methods, empirical Bayesian proved superiority so that much of the conclusion was based
on this method.
Results indicated that. Road sections 4, 6, and 5 were highly prone to accidents with potential
improvement (PI) EB values of 4.23, 1.8and 0.92 respectively. The values of PI EB indicated
that on these road sections need urgent attention to diagnose, prioritize, evaluate and give
low cost and effective solution to reduce road traffic accident and increase safety
performance. The cause of road traffic accident was speed limitation, putting black spot
location; adequate education & training about road traffic accident for all include driver &
pedestrian Possible solutions are using traffic signs, user awareness campaigns, policy
revisions, and permanent geometry and pavement modifications. |
