The construction industry is fraught with waste and inefficiencies resulting in projects
often failing to meet owners’ expectations. Integrated Project Delivery is the newest
project delivery system and changes the traditional roles and relationships of key project
stakeholders. Through increased early collaboration it attempts to eliminate waste and
deliver the highest value projects to owners. The objective of this study was to assess the
effect of implementing integrated delivery on performance of public building
construction. A comprehensive literature survey was carried out to develop a conceptual
linkage in construction industries, practice of integrated project delivery system in
construction, its implementation and its benefit on building construction projects
performance. This was followed by a questionnaire survey for 10 building construction
projects and semi-structured expert interviews to ascertain prevailing status of these
concepts in construction projects of Oromia Region in Mettu town. Data were analyzed
using statistical and content analysis respectively. The researcher used purposive
sampling method to select sample respondents. And qualitative methods based on content
analysis of interview data of expertise from construction projects, as well as quantitative
method on account of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis of statistical data
using Suitable descriptive statistical tools was utilized to analyze the data in (SPSS) to
assess sustainable construction; benefits of integrating sustainability; and impacts on
construction projects. As the research result indicated that the current methods for its
implementation is mainly through “Tracking accountability for reliable commitments”
(RII=0.850) which was ranked as the first, that indicates the construction industry boldly
use IPD for tracking of accountability of the workers of the project. Interestingly, Having
those practice the stages for application of integrated project delivery system are
“During Performance monitoring” (RII=0.833) was ranked the first in this collection,
which indicates that the construction industry boldly use IPD on the construction stage in
the construction project because all parties participate. With most significant benefits to
be derived from the integrated project delivery of the industry includes Good
interdisciplinary coordination, Leads to cost reduction, Project timing improves, shared
contractual risk and reward, are satisfied factors. Generally from the study to have
increment on the construction industry implementation of IPD by controlling factors and
applying mitigation methods is best option. Since implemention of IPD systems
significantly improve many aspects of the project stakeholder’s recommended to
implement IPD project administration and delivery process |
