Land degradation is the main problem which affects the global sio-ecnomic and biodiversity. The main objective of the study was to study the determinants of land
degradation and management approaches in Sokoru Woreda, jimma zone, South West
Ethiopia. Based on agro-ecological settings of the woreda, three kebeles were selected for
the study and to archive the stated objective 178 households were selected based different
agro-ecological zone. This study was investigated by mixed research approach and
desciptive research design. The study uses both primary and secondary sources of data.
The primary data was obtained by means of field observation, focus group desiccation,
and interview and survey questionnaire. Secondary data was collected from annual
reports and published and unpublished literature concerning on the land degradation and
management approaches.The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive statistical
methods. The finding of the study indicates there is high rate land degradation in study
area. Based on finding the researcher recommend to different stokeholders to do in study
area. Jimma Zone Agricultural Bureau should do different promotions those give
awareness to farmers regarding causes of land degradation and guide how resources are
managed to combat land degradation. Woreda administration should mobilize
communities to on activities such as, check dam, terracing, reforestation, etc. NGOs should
support by finance during training and motivate those active participants.Development Agents
must create mechanisms to increase the capacity for independent innovation within farming
communities, while working with farmers to develop appropriate technologies to combat soil
conservation problems |
