In the construction industry, the implementation of total quality management within the built
public building environment has taken over in construction projects to develop both the economic
and social aspects of developed and developing countries. However, the construction industry has
an impact on the economy, workers, end users of total quality management, and the community.
Also, in the construction industry, incorporating total quality management practices is less
common as compared to other industries. Therefore, implementing total quality management is
very important to improve performance and enhance public building construction projects.
Total quality management has been recognized as a successful management philosophy in the
manufacturing and service industries. The main objective of this thesis research was to assess the
implementation of total quality management in public building construction projects in Gambella
town. The study used a mixed-approach and exploratory survey design. The target group of the
study was Gambella town public building construction projects, consultant offices, and
contractors. Those construction buildings used Simple random sampling techniques,
questionnaires, and interviews were used to gather data from the respondents. Descriptive
statistical techniques (percentages and frequency) are used for data analysis using Statistical
Package for Social Sciences software version 27. The study revealed poor performance in Total
Quality Management dimensions such as supply management, top management commitment,
process management, contract selection, and training and education among stakeholders in
Gambella town public building construction projects. However, awareness of total quality
management, understanding of total quality management, and continuous improvement are highly
practiced in the Gambella town public building construction industry. Additionally, lack of
awareness ,lack of implementation of total quality management, lack of effective supervision, lack
of effective communication, lack of proper equipment available for use, insufficient technology,
and lack of collaboration were the major difficulties for Total Quality Management in Gambella
public building construction projects. Construction made it difficult to implement it. The study
concludes that there are many factors that hinder the implementation of total quality management
in public building projects, and this again influences awareness and practice of public building
construction projects in Gambella town.
The study, awareness, and skill gap training inspire top management and workers, incorporating
teamwork to implement total quality management in public building construction projects in
Gambella town. |
