dc.description.abstract The Success of a construction project depends on its performance. The performance of public projects has always been a frequent topic of discussions. Harari region government construction sectors face many difficulties in dealing with the different factors that affect the proper performance of the construction process. Several factors that influence the construction performance in the region were selected for study and discussion. Therefore, The aim of this study is to determine performance related problems, to identify the status and the major factor that affect project performance of government building construction project in Harari region, and to give remedial measures for project performance problems of government building. A total of 91 questionnaires were distributed to 4 key groups of project participants; namely, clients, Contractors, Supervisor engineers (Consultant), and regulatory bodies. A comprehensive literature review was deployed to generate a set of factors believed to affect project performance. Descriptive cross-sectional survey design was used, a total of 26 projects were included in the study, to select the study participants purposive and Convenience sampling technique was used. A Likert scale type structured questionnaire were used to study to identify factors affecting the performance of construction projects in Harari Region, The collected data were checked for completeness and consistency then entered and analyzed using SPSS version 26. Descriptive analysis using mean score together with standard error and relativity importance index was used in order to rank the level of factors affect project performance. There were 91 factors identified, for further analysis. It was discovered that the top-ranked factors that affect project performance of Harari Regional are: - “cost factors”, “Time factors”, “Quality factors”, “Productivity”, and “Client Satisfaction”. Finally this study conclude, Escalation of materials price, Material and equipment cost, Differentiation of currency prices, Leadership skills for project manager, Poor workmanship and incompetence worker, Too many change orders from owner, Delay to furnish and deliver the site, Absenteeism rate through project, lack of Commitment of all parties to the project, were the major leading factors that affect government building construction project performance. The study recommended that to develop human resources in the construction industry through proper and continuous training programs about construction projects performance. It’s hoped that these findings will guide efforts to improve the performance of the construction industry in the future. en_US
