Abstract:
Measuring construction labor productivity can be a difficult endeavor. In contrast to
manufacturing and other industries, construction duties vary significantly depending on
project type, contractor specialty, and other considerations. When a product is not mass produced and standardized, it becomes more difficult to measure productivity. Despite
these obstacles, industry researchers and practitioners have made significant progress in
evaluating productivity in recent years, and some intriguing tendencies have developed.
Although precise productivity indicators have varied, most sources concur that
construction labor productivity has room for improvement. Labor productivity in
construction projects adversely impacted the effectiveness and the success of organizations
engaged in the Ethiopian and world construction industry. Poor construction labor
productivity is one of the causes of cost and time overruns in building projects. This
research's basic objective is assessment labor effectiveness and productivity measurement
on building construction in Jimma Zone.
The research employs a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods to assess questionnaire
responses and link and examine the correlations between facts and how such facts and
relationships align with ideas and literature in the field. In addition, this strategy is used
to get insights and comprehend people's perceptions of increasing effectiveness and labor
productivity. A survey questionnaire was designed and disseminated to professional
engineers working on building projects.
This study's findings raise awareness and enhance comprehension of the factors affecting
labor effectiveness and productivity, as well as the possible impact and possibilities for
improvement in construction projects in the Jimma zone.
Therefore, measuring labor productivity can be challenging, and numerous potentials exist
for enhancement. Identification and understanding of factors that impact productivity are
solid starting points.
