Abstract:
The study was carried out at Gambella Teacher Education and Health Science Colleges with the
main goal of determining factors influencing female students' academic performance. The study
employed a variety of data collection methods, including survey (questionnaire), key informant i
nterviews, in depth interview and observations. In total, 250 peoples participated in this study.
Simple random sampling was used to select 239 participants out of 668 total female participant’s
population. Purposive sampling was used to select six female students, three female teachers, an
d two female education officers. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such
as frequency and percentage. SPSS version 20 was employed for this purpose. Qualitative data
were analyzed thematically. The study found that personal factors, school environment factors,
academic related factors, economic related factors, and cultural factors have significant and
challenging effects on female students' academic performance at Gambella Teachers Education
and Health Science College. The researcher suggested that guidance and counseling office need
to be established at the college for sake of advising female students with their academic problem
as well as others personal problems faced by them. With an emphasis on the rights and academic
performances of female students Regional education offices, and communities should work toget
her and give training that promote the rights of Gambella female Natives students that were affe
cted academically by cultural factors.
