Abstract:
The problem of less economic development of developing countries including Ethiopia is the low
investment opportunity. Whereas; the need for economically, social and technology improving of the
country led government to attracting domestic and foreign investors while it, increasing investment
opportunity by raising the demand of urban land in Ethiopia. However, this research focused to
assesses the challenges and prospects of urban land provision for investment purpose by setting
three specific objectives and having three research questions. The study demand mixed method, with
that of triangulation systems. The design employed was across-sectional method; where the
technique was an embedded purposively 18 peoples selected for sample. These were private owners
officially invests in the town and government officials whose investment directly concerns’. The data
collected by primary and secondary source; analyzed and presented by quantitative and qualitative
ways. Based on the finding; prospects of land provision consists decentralization, job opportunity,
revenue generation, participate in social affairs, consumption of local raw materials, investment at
thin age. The challenges were low infrastructures, institutional challenges, investors related
challenge, complex processes and take long waiting times. While, the stakeholders includes;
municipal office, town land management, investment office, environmental protection office, zone
and regional investment office. The report presented in tables (charts), graphs, figures, and
theoretically Finally, recommendation forwarded by researcher includes; capacitating institutions,
electronic on line communication, reforming investment office at town levels, set clear institutional
coordination’s, define responsibilities, initiate joint venture investment, diversify generating cost of
infrastructure and effective management and involving especially figure of societies.
