dc.description.abstract The focus of this thesis is to trace a history of Greek community in Dembi Dollo town and it is environ from about 1903-1980s. This community started to live in Dembi Dollo and its environs since 1903. The study is organized both chronologically and thematically and includes chapters on the early Greek ·immigrants and their participation in the trade activity of the region, their role as merchants in the brokers and in the trade activity generally, and traces the origins and development of their national institutions such as the communities, churches, schools, etc. The basic sources used were the written documents about the region in general and specifically which organized on Greek community, some documents located in the Greek communities, personal reminiscences and oral sources. The basic findings of the thesis point to the fact that trade and cultural interactions of Greeks with the local community were the major issue shaping the trade activity of the Greek immigrants in Dembi Dollo town during the period examined en_US
