dc.description.abstract Transportation sector is facing consequent car failure problems which in turn leads to other risks and damages. Car failure problem is a challenge of repairing of car components processes that necessitates the development of knowledge base. The main objective of this study is to develop a knowledge base system for car failure problem so as to diagnosis and repair the car failure problem properly. The study was conducted on three selected garages in Jimma town. Development of knowledge base system can highly provide a chance in assisting mechanics for failure diagnosis and training purposes. Additionally, the system captured valuable knowledge from domain experts and stored the knowledge accurately. The developed car failure diagnosis knowledge base system paves the way of effective experts’ knowledge storage and transfer. The prototype was developed by SWi-PROLOG software and the performance of the prototype was evaluated both by test cases and user acceptance testing. The development of knowledge base system supports car failure problem diagnosis in effective and efficient way and additional future work is expected from different scholars and researchers in area of knowledge base system application in other car components. en_US
