dc.description.abstract The main objective of this study was to assess the School Based Management Practices in Secondary Schools of Jimma Zone. The researcher applied descriptive research design that explained shool based management in detail. The method of this study was mixed that comprised quantitative and qualitative data in order to triangulate the result of the study . As sources of data, both primary and secondary sources of data were utilized. This study was conducted on teachers , principals , supervisos and PTSA of Jimma zone , selected secondary schools, from (361) total population of the teachers of these selected secondary schools, the study was conducted on (180) sample size of the study, the data were collected using questionnaire, interview, and focus group discussion .The quantitative data were analyzed through frequency, percentages, mean and standard deviation as well as the qualitative data were analyzed thematically. The finding of this study show there is less school based management as the result of schedule and monitoring with mean value 2.43 and SD=1.14 support it, and the principals did not take corrective measures on school based management with mean value 2.48 and SD=1.09 as well as lack of motivation with mean value 3.22 and SD=1.34 and delay in implementation of decision is major challenges of the practices of school based management in the selected secondary schools. This study also show that the practices of school based management is challenged by limited resources and personnel, and lack of commitment by stakeholders, and had concerns it might lead to conflict among the stakeholders, misuse and embezzlement of funds, delays in decision-making. The conclusion of this study show that, there is less practices of SBM management aspects due poor involvement of the parents , woreda educations experts, and other stake holders together to practices SBM , rather all routines of these secondary schools are dominated by principals and teachers . The researcher recommended that to practices SBM, the school principals , teachers, parent, and community should be organized and promoted at the woreda levels to enhance further their knowledge and motivation in implementing the strategy to practice the school based management in the schools. en_US
