Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the community participation on School
Improvement Program implementation in secondary schools of Gambella regional state. To
accomplish this purpose, the study employed a descriptive survey research design. It was
carried out in purposively selected seven (50%) secondary schools of Gambella regional
state. In these sample schools, 14 teachers (12 male and 2 female) were selected using
purposively sampling technique, 10 School Improvement Program committee members, 14
student representatives and 7 education supervision coordinators were included in the study
by using purposive sampling technique. Questionnaire was the main instrument of data
collection. Interview, document analysis, and observation were also utilized to substantiate
the data gained through the questionnaire. Percentage, mean, and standard deviation were
employed to analyze the quantitative data, while the data obtained through open ended
questionnaire items; interview, document analysis, and observation were analyzed using data
driven category based narration. The results of the study revealed that the awareness of
stakeholder for School Improvement Program was not satisfactory, the Stakeholders were
involved in School Improvement Program during planning and implementation was not
enough, without having prior training. On the basis of these findings, related
recommendations were forwarded.
