dc.description.abstract This study assesses the practice of co-curricular program in the government secondary schools of Bonga town. Hence, descriptive survey design was employed a long with the mixed method approach. Besides, simple random sampling was employed to select 284 (35%) grade 11 students and 71(35%) teachers. Also, 9 principals, 2 supervisors and 1 Education office expert were purposely selected. Besides, the quantitative data were analyzed by SPSS and presented through frequencies, percentages, mean, and total mean. Moreover, content analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data and presented through narratives according to the research objectives. Finally, the research reveals that the practice of co-curricular programs in the government secondary schools was low and not effective practice since the teachers and principals were not excited for implementing Co-curricular activities in their schools and did not work with their students on Co-curricular activities. The wereda education office experts and supervisors did not properly monitor, evaluate and support the secondary schools on co-curricular program. As a result, the students’ involvement in co-curricular program was not successful. Additionally, lack of encouragement, budget and schools’ facilities were the factors that negatively affecting the practice of Co-curricular activities in the study area. Therefore, the teachers, principals and supervisors have a duty to properly plan, direct and supervise the practice of curricular program and evaluate the achievement of the clubs in the secondary schools. en_US
