The main purpose of this study was to assess leadership development practice and challenges in secondary
schools of IluAbaBor Zone, Oromia regional state; The finding focuses on leader development practice
and challenges as well as determined possible solutions for these challenges. The Participants in the study
were, 125 teachers, 25 zone and Woreda educational office experts, 14 principals and vice principals, 7
supervisors from seven selected secondary schools in the zone On the basis of these findings principals
were less effective in their leadership due to lack of experience and qualification in the profession
Leadership development practice regarding challenging developmental assignment, relationship with
boss, and formal training implementation were insufficient. Finally, based on the findings,
recommendations were forwarded. Based on this Education offices should develop leadership practice
using different strategies like training, coaching and supporting continually. In addition schools should
engage teachers to take part in different activities leadership position. Further-more WEO and ZEO
should deal with Woreda leaders and make schools get appropriate financial and material support. |
