Abstract:
The main objective of this study was to examine the practices and challenges of using EMIS
in school management in Wereda education office of Kafa zone. In order to achieve this
objective, the study attempts to answer the following basic research questions. This research
used descriptive survey design. 90 participants were filled questionnaires. The calculated
mean value was 3.73. Educational indicators manual availability, 60% of the respondents
were agreed and 4.4% of the respondents were strongly agreed that educational indicators
manual is available. The gained mean value was 3.50. EMIS is sufficient to gather
information by using emerging information technology to provide comprehensive, integrated,
relevant, reliable and timely data to education leaders and decisions makers to perform their
responsibilities accurately and efficiently, 35.6% of the respondents were strongly disagreed
and 37.8% of the respondents were disagreed. Poor ICT infrastructure, 53.3% of the
respondents replied poor ICT infrastructure seriously. The calculated mean value was 3.66
and it is greater than the expected mean 3. Based on findings of the study the researcher
forwarded the following recommendations: Government and MOF should provide incentive
and continue training for EMIS experts on basic computer, educational indicators, on
education statistics software and other related topics. Kafa zone education department and
offices in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders should design education information
policy, motivate EMIS personnel based on their performance, improve data integration
School net program and decentralized EMIS soft ware up to schools level ,Established data
auditing system and create awareness through relevant training programs to overcome the
problem that were identified by respondents.
