Abstract:
The school Self-evaluation program is a means for making a school effective and increase students achievement. However its implementation is facing many challenges. Thus, this study therefore intended to assess the practices and challenges of school Self-evaluation program implementation in secondary school of Jimma Zone. In this study the Mixed research design was employed. To achieve these objective secondary and primary data were collected .Accordingly, questionnaire, interview were used to collect quantitative and qualitative data. Hence a total of 186 respondents were selected. Of which 170 were selected, randomly, 16 were selected by quota sampling technique. The obtained data results were analyzed by using descriptive statistics.. Then questionnaire administered to 170 teachers and 8 principals and 8 vice principals were interviewed The finding of this study indicates that the practices of school self-evaluation have been low. Due to this, the status of school self-evaluation program implementations was not to the expected level. From this, the achievements made so far are not encouraging and no significant efforts have been made to strengthen the implementation of school self-evaluation program. Thus, concerned body9 principals, vice principals and teachers) have to:-prepare adequate awareness creation program to ensure practical involvement of all. Stake holders, organize and allocate the necessary resources, provide proper technical support and practical training to support the implementation of school improvement program (SSE) are required.
