Abstract:
The main objective the study was to assess instructional supervisory practices and challenges in
creating positive working environment in BunoBedele Zone Secondary Schools.. To achieve the
intended objective of this study descriptive survey research method was used with quantitative and
qualitative approaches. Quantitative approach was used for the quantitative data that were
collected through questionnaire and qualitative approach was used for the qualitative data that
were collected through interview and document analysis. Descriptive research design was used as
the research design for the study. Quantitative data were collected from 154 sample respondents of
teachers those who had been selected through simple random sampling techinque through
questionnaire and qualitative data were collected through interview from six principals. The
collected data were analyzed in percentage mean, standard deviation and preseason correlation.
Based on the analysis made of this study the findings of this study were identified. Then the
findings of this study were the current supervisory practice in creating positive working
environment in the secondary schools was medium since the result the mean scores was ranged
above 2.82 mean score, the extent at which the current supervisory practice is effective in creating
positive working environment in the secondary schools of BunoBedele zone was medium since the
result the mean scores was ranged above 3.05mean score, the extent at which supervisors
effective in supervisory practice in creating positive working environment in the secondary schools
was at medium level since the result the mean scores was ranged above 3.01mean score and
challenges of supervisory practice were the un-cooperative attitudes of teachers, lack of supervisor
preparation in creating positive working environment in the secondary schools, The attitude of
fault-finding among supervisors in creating positive working environment in the secondary
schools, Weak relationship between teachers and supervisors in creating positive working
environment in the secondary schools and Lack of support for supervisors from higher offices
challenged supervisory practice in creating positive working environment in the secondary
schools. The researcher concluded that supervisory practices have positive relationship with
positive working environment in the secondary schools. Based on the above findings
recommendations were given at the last part of the study under chapter five. Therefore, positive
working environment should be created through effective supervisory practices
