dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to assess teachers’ and students' perception, practice and challenges of using visual teaching aids in some selected secondary schools of Loma Bossa woreda and would come up with possible findings to reduce or alleviate those challenges. Mixed research approach was used with the assumption that it helps to obtain sufficient information about assessing Teachers use of VTAs and challenges related to VTAs in secondary schools of Loma Bosa Woreda Descriptive survey design was employed in this study. Secondary schools were selected through simple random sampling technique by lottery method . Three secondary schools were considered. Moreover, 15 EFL teachers and 261 students were taken as data sources by using comprehensive sampling technique. The study revealed that less availability of VTAs, teachers’ poor utilization of VTAs, lack of technical skills for application of VTAs use, presence of ill-equipped VTAs centers; weaken facilitation of school leaders and lack of supply of VTAs as challenges of teachers’ use of VTAs in secondary schools. These are; lack of initiated teachers, lack of teachers professional skills, lack of committed school leaders, lack of cooperation between pedagogic center representatives, presence of large class size, lack of incentives for teachers and lack of woreda education office/government bodies attention. The study recommended that teachers should prepare locally available VTAs and improve utilization of VTAs to motivate students in EFL class. Woreda education office also should prepare technical and refreshment training to be given to EFL teachers, pedagogic center representatives and school leaders. Finally, cooperation from key stakeholders should increase to fill the gaps mentioned above. en_US
