The aim of this study was to investigate teachers' practice of training students vocabulary
learning strategies at Jeldut preparatory school Grade 11 students. The study was
conducted by using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The researcher used three
data gathering instruments to conduct this research. These were questionnaire for
students, interview for teachers and observation checklists for both participants of
teachers and students. The selected sample students were asked and responded to the
questionnaire prepared for them as a major data gathering tool. The teachers were
interviewed to give access data. In addition, classroom observation was also employed to
gather additional data. Based on this, the finding of this study indicated that more often
the English language teachers were not using various strategies during teaching to
increase their students' vocabulary. In addition, the students of the mentioned school were
ensured that they had shortage of vocabulary to communicate English in appropriate way.
The major causes for this were: first, no better practicing students new vocabularies by
their English language teachers, second ,less attention and lack of interest that the
learners had for vocabulary development ,third, shortage of time for teachers to practice
and give corrections and feedback to the students' homework and class work exercise
were among them. |
