This study was designed to investigated learners motivation towards writing skill : the case
of grade nine students in Seto Semero secondary school. The purposes of the study were (1)
to identify the level of grade nine students’ motivation to write effectively, (2) to identify
factors that hinder students’ motivation towards the writing tasks., and (3) to find out the
factors that motivate students towards effective writing. To this end, the study employed
descriptive survey method, which involves both quantitative and qualitative methods.
Accordingly, Seto Semero Secondary School was selected through sampling. Then, 3 English
teachers from grade 9 were selected purposefully for the interview and for classroom
observation . In addition, data were collected from 12 sections 3 section students were
selected randomly. Descriptive statistics, frequencies and percentages were employed in
analyzing the quantitative data and the qualitative data. The results of the study that the
students were not enough on the writing skill and not motivated by teachers to developed
writing skill in EFL classes. Generally, learners’ motivation in writing was not given
sufficient attention at SetoSemero Secondary School. Finally, based on the findings, the
researcher recommended that creating meaningful learners’ motivation through writing skill
should be practiced widely in the school. |
