This study was carried out to Utilize the Use of Literary Texts in Developing Students`
Vocabulary at grade 11 Dire Bedas Preparatory School. It also aimed at investigating
teachers’ practical use of literary texts for developing students` vocabulary. To achieve this,
all grade 11 students were selected to fill the questionnaires. As well as for the purpose of
classroom observation all grade11 English teachers were selected. Additionally, the Grade
11 English textbook and teachers’ guide were analyzed. And also, descriptive statistics using
frequencies and percentages were employed for quantitative data and qualitative method to
analyze the data gathered. From the findings of the study, all the data showed that the teachers
were not playing their active roles in developing students’ vocabulary using literary text. It
could be observed from the data that they did not create enough opportunities for students to
develop their vocabulary using literary text. The data revealed that they rather focused on doing
activities in the textbook mainly through listening, reading, and word meaning. Finally,
based on the findings, the researcher recommended that teachers should play their role in
creating opportunities for students using literary text through presenting systematically and
meaningfully. In addition to this they have to play their role in monitoring, guiding, and
motivating the students’ in teaching vocabulary. |
