dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that affect Students' achievement and attitude in learning speaking skill on Grade 10 Students at Mida Model Service Higher Education Preparatory and General Secondary School. The researcher used descriptive survey research design and both quantitative and qualitative research methods in data analysis. The main data gathering tools were questionnaire (close ended and open ended) and interview (semi-structured interview).Totally, 95 student participants were selected for questionnaire and 5 teachers for interviews were selected through simple random sampling andavailability sampling techniques respectively. A close ended questionnaire wasanalyzed by using SPSS (Scientific Package for the Social Sciences) in terms of frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. For this purpose, the study specifically showed the findings that the factors that affect students’ achievement were instructional material, classroom environment and psychological (health) related factors. In addition, topical knowledge, personal attitude, teachers’ personality, lack of willingness, teachers-related factors and so forth were investigated clearly under the factors that affect students’ attitude in learning speaking skill. Furthermore, the findings result clearly showed that achievement and attitude had strong positive relationship with each other in learning speaking skill. Thus, it is recommended that for any concerned bodies like syllabus designers, educational psychologists, students, teachers, school and district administrators and parents to fulfill important teaching materials, recruit educational psychologist, use appropriate teaching methods and attend their L2 classes properly to improve the factors that affect students’ achievement and attitude in learning speaking skill at Midi Model Service Higher Education Preparatory and General Secondary School. en_US
