dc.description.abstract The study was conducted on EFL teachers‟ and students‟ practice of alleviating demotivating factors in teaching and learning writing skills. The main purpose of the study is to identify both teachers‟ and students‟ awareness of demotivating factors and how to alleviate the impact of the them, find out the extent to which both practice techniques of alleviating the impacts of demotivating factors and challenges they face when practicing of it the study area is one primary school which is located Limmu Genet secondary school. The researcher employed descriptive survey design which includes mixed approaches both qualitative and quantitative data. The study sources are students and teachers. 162 sample sizes were selected through simple random sampling techniques. The researcher employed three data collections tools like questionnaires, interview and classroom observation. The data was analyzed through SPSS software by coding the data and analyzing via percentage, mean, standard deviation and correlation. A total of 45 questionnaires were used and data were collected from 162 students and four teachers. The study found out that the factors causing demotivation in EFL context were six, namely teaching style, school facilities, class conditions, curriculum, negative attitude toward foreign language, and poor self-confidence. Also, the findings of the study showed as the average mean of the awareness of the respondents about the demotivating factors learners face after learning writing lesson were low. However, there are many ways or techniques of alleviating demotivating factors to teach and learn writing skills; it was found that sample teachers were employing only few of them. Some of the common techniques used by the teachers were telling to students to use strategies of self-studying, providing support only for the students who asked for support, counseling students to change the perception towards writing and being objectively concerned to cope with demotivating factors they experience. Finally, the researcher recommended that students, teachers, parents and concerned bodies in teaching learning process at school level should contribute a lot to play their role to alleviate demotivating factors in the teaching learning process in general and to teach and learn writing skills in particular. en_US
