The purpose of this research was to investigate Afan Oromo Terminology in Tourism
activities in case of Aba Jifar Palace and Jimma Museum. Three basic questions were raised
to achieve the objectives of the study. To answer these basic research questions, descriptive
survey research design was used. The study was conducted with 30 employees of each tourism
site. The participants were selected by purposive sampling methods. To collect the necessary
data for the study, questionnaire, interview, observation and document review were used. The
questionnaire has 3 categories. The first part consists of 6 items underlying employees
understanding regarding Afan Oromo. Category 2 consists of 20 items focused on the
common Afan Oromo terminology in the tourism sectors. The 3rd category which consists of
41 items was focused on Terms relating to tourism activities in Afan Oromo. Observation
checklist which consists of 4 major items was used to see the actual practices of Afan Oromo
in the sectors. Also, document review with 11 major items was used. Finally, interview was
conducted with 5 participants. Frequency and percentage were used to analyze the collected
data. Then the overall findings of the study revealed that the almost all participants of the
research had highly positive perception regarding Afan Oromo though of them use it, Afan
Oromo was partially practiced in the study areas, there were some common Afan Oromo
terms which were commonly used in the study area. Therefore, it is recommended that
Workers of the site need to conduct research and find ways by which Afan Oromo
Terminology should abundantly use in the study sector, and there is a need for regular
workshops/training by the concerned body on Afan Oromo Terminology that should be used
in the study area and finally, further investigations should be carried out on this issue which
will consist of large number of samples of tourism sites and participants at different tourism
areas, hence, it could help to re-assure the reliability and validity of this study. |
