Veterinary surgery is a specialized field of veterinary medicine focused on performing
operations on animals to treat various conditions, including injuries, diseases, and
congenital abnormalities. Like human surgery, veterinary surgery can involve both routine
procedures and complex interventions, depending on the animal’s condition and species.
The objective of this study was to document and explain different surgical procedures,
techniques, and complications and to develop knowledge of surgical skills on various
surgical managements and treatments in domestic animals in particular. The study was
conducted from December 2023 to November 2024 on a total of 28 animals, which
included 14/28 (50%) bovines, 4/28 (14.28%) caprines, 4/28 (14.28%) ovine, and 2/28
(7.14%) equines, whereas 4 were small animals, including 2/28 (7.14%) canines and 2/28
(7.14%) felines, that were presented to the Jimma University, College of Agriculture and
Veterinary Medicine open-air veterinary clinic and veterinary clinics around Jimma Town
for different cases and management conditions which required surgical intervention |
