Abstract:
Urban expansion is inevitable phenomenon for a country to develop. If not properly
planned and implemented it has impacts on peri urban local farmers. Hence, this study
was aimed at assessing its impacts on Sebeta Sub City’s livelihood assets of peri-urban
farmers. Descriptive statistics research design and qualitative and quantitative research
approaches were used. Methods used in LULC assessment were downloading satellite
images, classifying them using supervised classification by means of objective based
Classification means, detection of LULCCs of three consecutive periods (1992-2004,
2004-2012 and 2012-2022), conducting classification accuracy assessment, computing
annual rate of change of LULCC, analyzing the data and LULC maps generation. To
assess socioeconomic data sample size determination, employing purposive and random
sampling technique, collection of primary and secondary data, organizing, analyzing and
interpreting them were methods used in the study. The results were satellite images of
Landsat of four years 1992, 2004, 2012 and 2022 were downloaded and classified into 8
major LULC classes
